SEND

As an inclusive school, we recognise that every individual is unique and progresses at a different rate. Our staff take account of this in the way they plan and deliver high-quality learning experiences, ensuring that every pupil is valued, included, and supported to achieve the best possible outcomes.

A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. These children may need adapted or additional support from that given to other children of the same age.

There are four broad categories of SEND:

       cognition and learning

       communication and interaction

       social, emotional and mental health

       physical and/or sensory

We have highly committed and experienced staff who will work closely with a range of specialists and with our families to enable all pupils make progress and reach their full potential.

Our SENDCo is Mrs Young. She is our Federation SENDCo which means she works to support children with special educational needs at both the schools in our federation – St Philip’s and St James’.

If you have a concern about the support your child is receiving in school we encourage you to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher to discuss this concern.

If you feel your concern has not been resolved, please make an appointment with Mrs Young who will endeavour to support you.

Social Communication Pathway

The Social Communication Pathway (SCP) is an autism assessment service in Manchester.

There are three separate teams, covering South Manchester (Carol Kendrick Centre), Central Manchester (The Powerhouse/Winnicott Centre) and North Manchester (The Powerhouse/The Bridge).

Their team includes a:

       Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

       Clinical Psychologist

       Speech and Language Therapist

       Occupational Therapist

       Mental Health Practitioner

       Educational Psychologist from One Education

       Consultant Pediatrician

 Who do they work with?

The SCP team work with children and young people who have differences with the following:

       Social relationships

       Expressing and understanding feelings

       Communication

       Changes to routine/unexpected changes

Sensitivity to sensory input such as noise, textures and tastes

Young people may also have special interests and things they are very good at.

Some children and young people experience these differences because they are autistic (also known as autism spectrum disorder or autistic spectrum condition). Some children and young people have these differences but are not autistic. The SCP’s job is to work with children/young people and their families to see if the child/young person is autistic.

For further information and their referral criteria please visit their website (linked below). If you feel your child meets the referral criteria you can submit a parent referral form (also linked below).
