Teaching and Learning at St Philip’s C of E Primary School

Your child will be learning about the following this half term:

Literacy

Fiction – pupils will write a story with a focus on characters.

 

Pupils will learn to:

·         plan what is going to be written about.

·         use punctuation correctly – full stops, capital letters.

·         use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify.

·         use subordination (because) and coordination (and).

Numeracy

Place Value – pupils will develop a good understanding of numbers to 100.

 

Pupils will learn to:

 

·         Count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward or backward.

·         Recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens, ones).

·         Identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations, inc. the number line.

·         Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100; use <, > and = signs.

·         Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and in words.

 

Science

Plants

 

Pupils will learn to:

 

·         describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants eg Seeds and bulbs need water to grow but most do not need light.

·         describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy eg. says that a plant will die without water.

·         use and interpret simple tables where appropriate e.g. blocks graphs, pictograms.

·         use what they see and their own ideas to suggest answers to questions.

 

Geography

Weather & Seasons

 

Pupils will learn to:

  • develop locational and place knowledge about their locality, and the UK as a whole.
  • understand basic subject-specific vocabulary relating to physical geography.
  • begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation, to enhance their locational awareness.
  • identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the UK.
  • use simple fieldwork and observational skills in their school, its grounds and surroundings.

ArtDrawing – Tell a story.

 

  • Using storybook illustration as a stimulus, pupils will develop their mark-making to explore a wider range of tools and experiment with creating texture to add detail to drawings.

 

 

 

 

 

Music

Ourselves

Pupils will learn to:

·         discover ways to use their voices to describe feelings and moods.

·         Create and notate vocal sounds, building to a performance.

 

ICT/Computing

Information Technology

·         Pupils will be learning about information technology in the world around them.
