RECEPTION

Our Early Years Reception class is the first step on the learning journey for your child at St Philip’s CE Primary School. A good early education is the foundation for later success and we strive to provide every child with a rich learning environment indoor and outdoor. We are lucky to have a great dedicated outdoor play area for our pupils to learn and explore.

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. Listening to stories, poems and rhymes feeds the children’s imagination, enhances their vocabulary and develops their comprehension.

Each day all pupils will have structured direct teaching of reading, writing and mathematics, plus frequent opportunities for children to practise and consolidate their skills. There are termly topics which link to our activities.

Play is encouraged for developing children’s personal, social and emotional skills. With links to the curriculum our pupils learn to investigate the world around them, both physically and imaginatively.

We do PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
Homework is sent home every Friday.
